Keep your butter fresh and at room temp to be perfectly spreadable!
Simply put water in the bottom part enough to seal the bell part. Place butter in the bell and place in the bottom piece.
Stoneware Butter Bell. Measures about 4″ tall and 3 1/2″ wide. Choose from our Alsace, Fiorella, Landmark, and 1844 glaze options. According to Tasting Table, its best to use a butter crock when using a lot of butter and a butter dish when using smaller amounts. Also known as a butter crock, the exquisite stoneware bell consists of two pieces that keeps butter fresh on the counter for up to 30 days.
The butter goes in the “bell,” which you place in the water-filled crock. This beautiful piece of kitchen art keeps butter smooth and spreadable, making it an essential tool for every butter lover.
Step 1: Soften a stick of butter on the counter. (it does need to be soft to mold it into the bell).
Step 2: Add water to the crock. (Just enough to line up with the butter so it’s airtight).
Step 3: Place the bell, upside down, inside the crock.
That’s it. Smooth, creamy butter is now available for morning toast or whenever you wish.

In the 16th century, foodies in France created a clever bell-shaped storage crock to prevent the butter from spoiling while keeping it creamy and aromatically delicious.
Upon the advent of refrigeration, these little crocks slowly disappeared. Only true butter aficionados, chefs, and some European households still had them in use.
